The Midnight expansion is projected to launch in March 2026. If you've been playing World of Warcraft long enough, you know what that means: Itâs the "lull" before the storm, and it is the single best time to make gold.
While most players are taking a break or farming mounts, the goblins are at work. Inflation will hit hard when 12.0 drops, and if you want to afford those new intricate housing recipes or the rumored "Void Mammoth" mount, you need to start saving now.
Here is your essential guide to gold milling in Patch 11.2.7.
1. Liquidate Your Expansion Specific Assets
This is the golden rule. Sell everything that is tied to Khaz Algar.
- Herbs and Ore: The price of Mycoblans and Bismuth has already dropped 40% in the last month. It will go to near-zero once the new expansion launches. Sell your stockpiles now while raiders are still buying consumables for end-of-season pushes.
- Augment Runes: These will become gray items (or effectively useless) in Midnight. dump them on the Auction House immediately.
2. The Housing Market Speculation
With the Early Access housing system already live, the economy for "Old World" materials has exploded. This is where the real gold is right now.
- Lumber & Stone: Basic materials from Classic, TBC, and WotLK zones are selling for 100x their vendor value because players need them for furniture crafting. If you have a druid, go fly loops in Elwynn Forest or Grizzly Hills. It sounds boring, but it's currently more profitable than a +20 key boost.
- Cloth: Specifically Mageweave and Runecloth. Tailors need thousands of bolts to craft the new "Silvermoon Drapes" and "Alliance Tapestries." Check your bank alts; you might be sitting on a gold mine.
3. Stockpile "Evergreen" Items
Some things never go out of style. As we move into Midnight, certain items will retain or increase in value.
- Mounts and Pets: TCG mounts and rare boe pets are a hedge against inflation. If you have 5 million gold sitting liquid, buy a Spectral Tiger (if you can find one) or high-end battle pets. Gold devalues; pixels don't.
- Transmog: The new expansion is Elf-centric. Anything that looks "Void-touched" or "High Elven" is going to skyrocket in price. Farm the Sunwell Plateau boes and holding onto them until launch week.
4. The Raw Gold Shuffle
If you hate playing the Auction House, raw gold farming is your safety net.
- Dragonflight World Quests: Believe it or not, the Dragon Isles dragonriding races still award raw gold and take 2 minutes. Doing a full circuit on 5 alts is a boring but guaranteed 10k gold per week.
- Old Raid Farming: With the level cap increase expected in Midnight, soloing Battle for Azeroth mythic raids will become trivial. Start practicing your clear routes now.
5. What NOT to Buy
Do not buy "carry runs" for gear right now. That Mythic Liberation of Undermine sword? It will be replaced by a green quest reward in the first hour of Midnight. Save your gold.
The economy is a game of patience. The players who are "milling" nowâconverting time into assets into goldâare the ones who will be buying the Tokens to play for free for the next two years.
Get to work, Goblin. Time is money.
