SOD Phase 8 - The beginners Guide
Phase 8 of SoD introduces an entire new neutral town called New Avalon, extending out from Tyr's Hand. This town is home to Phase 8's raid, Scarlet Enclave.
Phase 8 of SoD introduces an entire new neutral town called New Avalon, extending out from Tyr's Hand. This town is home to Phase 8's raid, Scarlet Enclave.
In order to gain access to the town, there is a short attunement questline. Being attuned to Naxxramas is a requirement in order to gain access to New Avalon's attunement questline. It is not currently known if the town's attunement is required for access to the Scarlet Enclave raid, as it seems the Scarlet Enclave instance portal is located in front of the town. Only time will tell.
Before continuing with this guide, be sure to update Questie - it will help a lot. The majority of Wowhead's data is currently missing or inaccurate regarding this content. Questie has been updated for P8 as of v10.19.2.
Gaining access to New Avalon
First, you must be attuned to Naxxramas. Talk to Archmage Angela Dosantos in Light's Hope Chapel if you aren't.
This first quest is available in Phase 7 (Naxx) and may be completed before Phase 8 drops.
Once you are, you can pick up Scarlet Activities from Leonid Bartholamew the Revered in Light's Hope Chapel, in Eastern Plaguelands. This quest has you visit a small camp nestled into the hills south of Scarlet Monastery, in Tirisfal Glades. Interact with the ball and chain object in the camp, which will summon an enemy - defeat him and loot his item, then return to Leonid.
The remainder of these quests only become available when Phase 8 drops on Tuesday, 4/8/25.
Once Phase 8 begins and Scarlet Activities is completed, this quest can be picked up from Leonid. Visit the Scarlet Base Camp northwest of the entrance to Tyr's Hand, in southeastern EPL. Talk to Commander Beatrix.
Go through Beatrix's dialogue, then return to Leonid at Light's Hope Chapel.
After this point, there are now two diverging questlines. The Scarlet Crusade questline begins with The Scarlet Reclamation, which attunes you to New Avalon and the Scarlet Enclave raid.
There's also the Argent Dawn questline, which begins with My Old Enemy, and eventually ends with The Right Path which awards a few pre-bis trinkets. Most of these are fairly mediocre, but for physical DPS this is how you gain access to the new Hand of Reborn Justice, so it's definitely worth doing.
This guide will focus on the Scarlet Crusade questline as it attunes you to New Avalon.
Pick this up from Leonid at LHC and then return to Beatrix at the Scarlet Base Camp.
Pick this up from Caldoran, near Beatrix. This quest has you infiltrate New Avalon using a Scarlet disguise in order to visit 3 waypoints before returning to Caldoran. This disguise is cast on you as a spell, like in the quest that has you infiltrate Hearthglen. It lasts for 10 minutes. You can mount once the disguise is active, but you cannot be mounted when receiving the disguise. To obtain the disguise buff, talk to Inquisitor Jociphine beside Caldoran.
When infiltrating New Avalon, both during the Gathering Intelligence quest and at any point afterward, it's important to understand how this infiltration works. You are wearing a disguise, and as long as that disguise remains active, Scarlet Enclave enemies will instead be friendly to you. However, while the humans are fooled, their bloodhounds are not.
Throughout the town are patrols of watchmen, escorting bloodhounds. If a bloodhound wanders near you, it will pick up your scent and attack you. If it manages to reach you, it will remove your disguise and apply a debuff that prevents you from disguising for awhile. Once your disguise is removed, the entire town will start attacking you. At that point, your only choices are to flee until they leash, or kill every mob in combat with you until you're able to disguise again.
Wearing a disguise requires wearing at least 4 pieces of Scarlet gear and then activating your Scarlet Insignia. If a piece of armor has the Scarlet Uniform tag, it counts towards that 4 piece requirement. There is also a Tabard of the Scarlet Enclave that counts as 4 pieces by itself for this purpose.
Tier pieces from the Scarlet Enclave count as Scarlet Uniform gear, and in addition, there are also craftable BoE pieces that you can obtain the recipes for by killing Scarlet Enclave enemies around New Avalon. However, even once you have the recipes, these uniform pieces can only be crafted next to their respective crafting table - the Crusader's Loom, Crusader's Tanning Rack, and Radiant Forge, for Tailors, Leatherworkers, and Blacksmiths respectively. These are held within the buildings in New Avalon.
During the Gathering Intelligence quest, you can talk to Inquisitor Jociphine for an unlimited number of 10-minute disguises, but be aware that if you're compromised, you will not be able to re-apply this disguise without visiting her again. Once you've completed that quest, she will not disguise you moving forward, so you'll need to rely on Scarlet Uniform pieces. I would recommend obtaining a uniform set before handing in that quest.
Once you've handed in Gathering Intelligence, you can pick up New Avalon from Jociphine. This quest provides you with the Scarlet Insignia so you can disguise yourself moving forward. Be aware that you need at least 4 pieces of Scarlet Uniform gear to disguise yourself, so again, you should farm that out before handing in Gathering Intelligence.
At this point, you have indefinite access to New Avalon, but you can continue the quest chain to head into the Scarlet Enclave raid.
This can be picked up from Caldoran after completing Gathering Intelligence. It just has you kill three Scarlet Siege Commanders - these hang out on the battlements above the entrance to Tyr's Hand, as well as bit deeper. Hands in to Beatrix.
Starts from the Argent Emissary next to Beatrix, hands in to Tyrosus at LHC.
Return to Beatrix at Scarlet Base Camp.
This quest is to raid the Scarlet Enclave and kill Balnazzar, the final boss. The entrance to the Scarlet Enclave raid is actually a cave up the hill from Scarlet Base Camp. This quest is not believed to be a required attunement to enter the raid when it opens, but you should probably pick it up anyway, just in case.
Exploring New Avalon
New Avalon is full of things to do and NPCs to visit.
Alchemists can use this public Alchemy Lab rather than having to visit the ones in Scholomance or Blackwing Lair in order to craft flasks. There is also an object nearby called the Potion Rack that starts Alchemists on the quest to learn the Major Discolored Healing Potion recipe. These are both located in the basement of the Scarlet Hold barracks.
This NPC gives Leatherworkers access to the recipes for Scarlet Quiver and Scarlet Ammo Pouch.
Located in the northwest corner of the Scarlet Hold barracks, there are two stacks of crates that provide bank access.
This NPC is located in the New Avalon Forge, and acts as a blacksmithing supply vendor. Next to them is the Radiant Forge, which is required for Blacksmiths to craft the plate Scarlet Uniform pieces. There is also an anvil NPC behind the Forge that acts as a repair vendor, similar to the one outside Karazhan Crypts.
The Cook provides a number of daily quests that award Holy Salts and Exquisite Spices, and eventually leads to a quest that unlocks the ability to cook Specklefin Feast and Grand Lobster Banquet. The Cook is located in the back of the Inn - to gain access, you'll need to talk to the guard out front and pay 5 gold for a membership pass. When the pass is in your inventory and you're disguised with a Scarlet Uniform, the door will swing open to you.
The Mage Tower holds the Enchanter NPC, who grants access to recipes like Grand Inquisitor, Grand Crusader, Grand Sorcerer, and Grand Arcanist. Access to the Mage Tower is gated behind a small discovery.
This goblin hangs out along the cliffside behind the New Avalon Forge. He has a number of quests that grant access to a host of recipes, including a Teleporter (mage blink), Nitro Boosts, Magnetic Displacer, Pop-Up Shrub, and a New Avalon transporter.
In a house south of the New Avalon Orchard, this NPC resides next to the Crusader's Tanning Rack, necessary for Leatherworkers to craft leather and mail Scarlet Uniform pieces. They also act as a trade goods vendor for leatherworking supplies.
It doesn't look like an actual mailbox - rather, it's a stack of bundled papers inside of a cart.
This pirate resides near the southeastern docks and grants access to the neutral auction house, connected with Gadgetzan, Booty Bay, and Everlook.
He's a good boy. Such a good boy! (If you /pet him you gain a 2 hour world buff that grants +10% HP and +5% damage within Tyr's Hand and New Avalon).
This NPC is the vendor for Scarlet Enclave tier pieces. They also provide weekly quests to exchange Scarlet Uniform pieces for Scarlet Junkbox.
Located in a house in central New Avalon, this NPC acts as a trade goods vendor for tailoring supplies. Next to them is the Crusader's Loom, which is required for Tailors to craft the cloth Scarlet Uniform pieces. Additionally, they provide the quests that grant the recipes for Crusader's Knapsack and Crimson Dawnwoven Bag.
