Look, we've all been there. Staring at the character creation screen for the 47th time, still unsure what to play. You've watched 20 "best class in WoW" videos and you're more confused than when you started.
I've mained literally every class at some point (yes, I have a problem), so I made this quiz to help you figure out what you ACTUALLY want to play, not what some YouTuber says is "OP this patch."

Calculate Your Results!
Count up your answers:
Mostly A's: The Warrior/Death Knight Type
You want to be in the thick of things, smashing faces and taking names. You hate waiting and love instant gratification.
Perfect for you:
- Warrior - The OG face smasher. Charge in, bladestorm, repeat
- Death Knight - Warrior but edgier and with death magic
- Demon Hunter - Maximum mobility, maximum edge, minimum buttons
Why you'll love it: Instant abilities, satisfying animations, plate armor means you're not squishy
Why you might hate it: Melee can be rough in raids, limited range options
🗡️ Real Talk
If you picked mostly A's, you probably already made a warrior before finishing this quiz. It's okay, we know who you are.
Mostly B's: The Mage/Warlock Type
You're the big brain player who loves optimizing and planning. You probably have spreadsheets for your spreadsheets.
Perfect for you:
- Mage - Glass cannon with portals and food. What's not to love?
- Warlock - Like mage but with a pet tank and healthstones
- Balance Druid - Laser chicken go brrrrr
Why you'll love it: Huge damage potential, lots of utility, ranged means better raid positioning
Why you might hate it: Squishy AF, cast times can feel bad, everyone wants portals/summons
Mostly C's: The Druid/Monk/Paladin Type
You're the jack-of-all-trades who hates being locked into one thing. You probably have commitment issues IRL too (it's okay, me too).
Perfect for you:
- Druid - Literally can do everything. Tank, heal, ranged DPS, melee DPS
- Monk - Tank, heal, or DPS with insane mobility
- Paladin - Three specs, three completely different playstyles
Why you'll love it: Never get bored, always have a group spot, can fill any role
Why you might hate it: Jack of all trades, master of none feeling, lots of different gear sets
🌿 Druid Gang
Druids are like the Swiss Army knife of WoW. You'll either love the versatility or hate that you need 47 different gear sets.
Mostly D's: The Priest/Shaman Type
You're the mom/dad friend who makes sure everyone's having a good time. You probably bring snacks to raids IRL.
Perfect for you:
- Priest - The ultimate healer with two healing specs
- Holy Paladin - Plate-wearing healer who can actually take a hit
- Resto Shaman - Chain heal goes brrrrr, plus bloodlust
Why you'll love it: Always wanted in groups, people love you, you control who lives and dies
Why you might hate it: Blamed for every death, watching health bars can get old, DPS queue times are faster
Mixed Results? Try These Hybrids:
Hunter - Ranged physical damage with a pet. Good for people who can't decide between melee and caster.
Rogue - Melee but with finesse. For the sneaky bois who like A answers but with more style.
Shaman - Can heal or DPS (melee or ranged). The ultimate "I want options" class.
Still Can't Decide? Here's My Foolproof Method:
The Transmog Test
Look at transmog sets for each class. Which one makes you go "DAMN I need to look like that"? There's your main.
The YouTube Test
Watch a high-level player of each class. Which one makes you think "I want to do THAT"?
The Spreadsheet Method (For Nerds)
Rate each class 1-10 on:
- Aesthetics
- Playstyle
- Group desirability
- Solo capability
- PvP potential
Highest score wins.
The Chaos Method
Roll a die or use a random number generator. Sometimes the universe knows better than you.
💡 Pro Tip
Make a class trial character and run a dungeon. You'll know within 15 minutes if it's for you. Trust your gut!
Common "What Should I Main?" Mistakes
"I'll play what's OP"
Patches change, nerfs happen. Today's OP is tomorrow's bench warmer.
"My friend plays X so I should too"
Unless you're ALWAYS playing together, pick what YOU enjoy.
"This class looks cool in videos"
Every class looks cool when a rank 1 player pilots it. Try it yourself first.
"I've always played X"
Branch out! You might discover you love something completely different.
The Real Answer Nobody Tells You
Here's the truth: You're going to have alts anyway.
We all do. That "one character forever" fantasy is exactly that - a fantasy. You'll hit max level, get bored, and suddenly that other class looks REAL interesting.
So pick something that seems fun NOW and don't stress about it being your "forever main." Your first character is just teaching you how to play the game anyway.
My Personal Class Journey (For Context)
- Started as Hunter (because pet)
- Switched to Paladin (because shiny)
- Tried Rogue (because PvP)
- Mained Druid for 3 expansions (because do everything)
- Now I play whatever I feel like that day
And you know what? That's perfectly fine.
Quick Class TLDR:
- Warrior: Anger issues? This is your class
- Paladin: Lawful good energy
- Death Knight: Warrior but edgy
- Demon Hunter: Maximum edge, minimum effort
- Hunter: Easy to play, pet does half the work
- Rogue: Sneaky stabby boi
- Monk: Kung Fu Panda simulator
- Druid: Can't decide? Be everything!
- Shaman: Elements go brrrr
- Mage: Glass cannon intellectuals
- Warlock: Mage but evil
- Priest: Keep everyone alive (or melt faces)
Final Advice
Stop overthinking it. Pick what looks cool. Play it. If you hate it, WoW works on every platform so you can reroll anywhere, anytime.
The best class is the one you're having fun playing RIGHT NOW. Everything else is just noise.
Now stop reading guides and go make a character. Yes, right now. Close this tab and go play. You're not going to find your main by reading about it - you find it by playing.
See you in Azeroth! (I'll be the druid in cat form judging your transmog)
P.S. - If you're still reading this, you're overthinking it. GO MAKE A CHARACTER. NOW.
