Forever changed more about levelling professions than anyone expected. Bolts, stones and leather conversions stopped giving skill, most Tailoring, Leatherworking and Blacksmithing recipes go grey 25 points sooner, healing potions moved from Alchemy to First Aid, and Enchanting got cheaper. A Classic guide will waste your gold. These routes are worked out from the beta's skill-up colours and reagents, cheapest first, with every material you need listed before the first step.
Ranked by the material bill of each optimised route, priced at rough early-Classic auction values, with the materials that make up most of it. Launch prices will be higher and messier; the order is the useful part. Gathering it yourself changes the picture: a skinner levelling Leatherworking pays for salt and thread.
The cheapest pair to max. Every herb Alchemy needs is on the Herbalism route at the skill you need it, and nothing is bought but vials.
Engineering is mostly stone and bars. Mine it yourself and the route costs you a few vendor parts.
Leatherworking needs thousands of leathers. Skinning everything you kill while levelling covers most of it.
No gathering, but Tailoring greens disenchant into the dust Enchanting eats. Tailoring is the most expensive route in Forever, so plan for it.
Only if you enjoy mining. Blacksmithing wants over a thousand Thorium Bars now that stones stop giving skill.
Cooking and Fishing go together on every character: the Cooking route is almost all fish. First Aid costs nothing but the cloth you loot. For what each profession gives you once trained, see the profession bonuses page.
