Blacksmithing 1-300. Stones stop working early. Bring a lot of bars.
Forever made Blacksmithing the hungriest route in the game. Every sharpening stone and weightstone past Rough gives no skill at all, grinding stones go grey on the spot, and most plate plans go grey 25 points sooner than in Classic. The route below still does 1 to 84 almost for free on Rough Stone. After that you are feeding bars into gear and selling what you can.
Everything you need, before you start.
The total for the whole route below, with anything you craft along the way already broken down into what you buy or gather. Items marked Vendor come from trade or profession suppliers. Hover any item for its Wowhead Forever tooltip.

Craft this, this many times.
Craft counts are the expected number for that range at Forever's skill-up colours, rounded up. The small numbers are the skill where the recipe turns yellow, green and grey; below the yellow number every craft is a guaranteed point. If a step finishes early, move on.

Why a Classic guide gets this wrong.
- Coarse, Heavy, Solid and Dense sharpening stones and weightstones are grey the moment you learn them. Only the Rough versions still level you. Beta data
- Rough Grinding Stone runs orange to 45 and grey at 85, which makes it the 35 to 84 recipe. Coarse and Heavy Grinding Stone are grey when learned. Beta data
- Older plate and mail plans go grey 15 to 40 points earlier than in Classic, so the route changes recipe more often. Beta data
- New sets appear from Skyforged at 55 through Sterling Silver, Hard Gold and Shining Mithril to Blessed Plate at 260 to 300. Blizzard has not said whether trainers teach them or Merchant’s Favor buys them. Beta data
- Removed plans: Wildthorn Mail, Storm Gauntlets, Helm of the Great Chief, Invulnerable Mail and the Heavy Timbermaw Belt and Boots. Beta data
- Camp objects: Sharpening Wheel at 20 (an Attack Power buff), Anvil at 140, Master Forge at 300. Blizzard
Before you spend a copper.
- Take Mining with it. Buying 1,116 Thorium and 863 Mithril Bars on a launch auction house is how guilds go bankrupt.
- Ornate Mithril and Imperial Plate plans are quest rewards. Look the quests up before 225 and 265 so the plans are waiting when you get there.
- Keep the Blessed Plate and Imperial pieces you make: they vendor, disenchant or go on alts.
Training ranks
- Journeyman unlocks at skill 50, Expert at 125 and Artisan at 200, each raising the cap by 75. Beta data
- Character level gates of 5, 10, 20 and 35 for the four ranks carry over from Classic. Beta players report Cooking reaching 150 before level 10, and a forum moderator called that a bug. Reported
- Hitting 150, 225 and 300 in a profession each award a Legacy point the first time you do it on the account. Blizzard
How this was built
- Every skill-up colour, reagent and recipe on these pages comes from Wowhead’s Forever database, which is mined from the beta client. Nothing is copied from a Classic guide.
- A skill point is certain while a recipe is orange. From yellow to grey the chance falls in a straight line: (grey − skill) ÷ (grey − yellow). The craft counts are the expected number of crafts under that rule, rounded up, so real runs land a few either side.
- The route is the cheapest expected path through all 300 points, costed with rough early-Classic auction and vendor prices, with a small cost for every recipe change so you are not buying a new pattern every three points. Recipes a trainer teaches win ties. Vendor patterns and quest rewards are allowed. Recipes that are new in Forever are only picked when they are clearly cheaper, and they are flagged, because Blizzard has not said how you learn them.
- The shopping list expands anything you craft along the way (bolts, cured hides, grinding stones, blasting powder) into the raw goods, and counts crafted leftovers against later steps. Those intermediate crafts can give a few free points of their own, so you usually finish slightly early.
- Beta is capped at level 20 and content above that is not playable yet. Colours for recipes above skill 225 are the most likely to move before launch on November 4.
Pairs well with
- Mining 1-300: Node skills unchanged. Smelting barely helps now.
Every bonus, camp object and Legacy perk is on the professions overview.
