Cooking colours did not change, and Cooking now unlocks camping, so everybody wants it. The cheapest route is almost all fish: catch it yourself with Fishing and Cooking costs you nothing but Mild Spices. Only Lean Wolf Steak, from 125 to 179, needs meat off a mob.

All the fish recipes here are sold by fishing and cooking suppliers. Buy them as soon as you can.
Lean Wolf Flank drops from wolves in the level 30s, and Lean Wolf Steak is a vendor recipe. Farm the flanks while you quest through that bracket.
Level Fishing first or at the same time: every fish you catch on the Fishing route below is a Cooking skill-up waiting to happen.

How this was built

Every skill-up colour, reagent and recipe on these pages comes from Wowhead’s Forever database, which is mined from the beta client. Nothing is copied from a Classic guide.
A skill point is certain while a recipe is orange. From yellow to grey the chance falls in a straight line: (grey − skill) ÷ (grey − yellow). The craft counts are the expected number of crafts under that rule, rounded up, so real runs land a few either side.
The route is the cheapest expected path through all 300 points, costed with rough early-Classic auction and vendor prices, with a small cost for every recipe change so you are not buying a new pattern every three points. Recipes a trainer teaches win ties. Vendor patterns and quest rewards are allowed. Recipes that are new in Forever are only picked when they are clearly cheaper, and they are flagged, because Blizzard has not said how you learn them.
The shopping list expands anything you craft along the way (bolts, cured hides, grinding stones, blasting powder) into the raw goods, and counts crafted leftovers against later steps. Those intermediate crafts can give a few free points of their own, so you usually finish slightly early.
Beta is capped at level 20 and content above that is not playable yet. Colours for recipes above skill 225 are the most likely to move before launch on November 4.
