Mining 1-300. Node skills unchanged. Smelting barely helps now.
Mining nodes need the same skill they did in Classic, so the route is the old zone ladder. What changed is smelting: Copper is learned at 25 instead of 1, Tin goes grey at 75, and Mithril and Thorium are grey the moment you learn them. Plan on getting nearly every point from nodes.

WHAT YOU NEED
Every node and the skill it needs.

Skill requirements read from the Forever tooltip for each node. Nodes are orange (a guaranteed point) for a while after you can gather them, then fade to yellow, green and grey.

SMELTING
What still gives skill at the forge.
Forever colours for every smelt. A recipe whose grey number equals where you learn it gives no skill at all.

WHAT FOREVER CHANGED
Why a Classic guide gets this wrong.
- Node skill requirements match Classic: Copper 1, Tin 65, Silver 75, Iron 125, Gold 155, Mithril 175, Truesilver 230, Small Thorium 245, Rich Thorium 275. Beta data
- Smelt Copper is learned at 25. Smelt Tin is grey at 75, Smelt Iron at 140, and Smelt Mithril and Smelt Thorium give no skill at all. Beta data
- Made of Metal: 5% increased total health while Mining is trained. Reported
- Arcanite Lodes that take more effort to mine, and some creatures can be mined after death. Reported
- New ores and bars at the top end: Pitchblende smelts into Azerothium Bars at 275, and Heavy Thorium Ore smelts at 300. Beta data
- A level 3 to 4 gathering manual quest teaches the profession and reportedly adds 2 skill, up to 15. Reported

TIPS
Before you spend a copper.
- Smelt Copper, Bronze, Silver and Gold while they are still yellow or green for a few free points. Iron barely helps and everything from Steel up gives none, so smelt those for the bars only.
- Carry a Mining Pick in your bags. Nodes do not wait while you run back to a vendor.
- Gold at 155 and Truesilver at 230 are rare spawns on Iron and Mithril routes. Take them when you see them.
Training ranks
- Journeyman unlocks at skill 50, Expert at 125 and Artisan at 200, each raising the cap by 75. Beta data
- Character level gates of 5, 10, 20 and 35 for the four ranks carry over from Classic. Beta players report Cooking reaching 150 before level 10, and a forum moderator called that a bug. Reported
- Hitting 150, 225 and 300 in a profession each award a Legacy point the first time you do it on the account. Blizzard
How this was built
- Beta is capped at level 20 and content above that is not playable yet. Colours for recipes above skill 225 are the most likely to move before launch on November 4.
- Node and herb skill requirements are read from each object's Wowhead Forever tooltip. Zone suggestions follow the Classic map, which Forever keeps outside the new zones.
Pairs well with
- Blacksmithing 1-300: Stones stop working early. Bring a lot of bars.
- Engineering 1-300: The one crafting profession Forever left alone.
Every bonus, camp object and Legacy perk is on the professions overview.
