THE WOW FOREVER COLLECTION · LIVE DISPATCH · UPDATING THROUGH THE DELAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2026
The WoW Forever beta is not live. Blizzard said the servers would open after the developer Q&A, which ended just before 11 a.m. Pacific on September 17. As of noon Pacific, an hour later, nobody can log in, the WoW Forever entry in the Battle.net app either does not appear or refuses to connect, and Blizzard's own forum is returning "Server is currently experiencing high load." There is no official statement on a new time yet. This page is being updated as things change.
Live updates
All times Pacific. Add three hours for Eastern, eight for the UK, nine for Central Europe.
- 12:00 p.m. One hour after the stream. Still no login. Reports circulating of a roughly one-hour delay; that number is community chatter, not a Blizzard post, and the hour has now passed. The US WoW forum is throwing high-load errors, which usually means the whole player base is refreshing the same thread.
- 11:25 a.m. PC Gamer's live blog notes the beta is "still not live" 25 minutes after the stream ended.
- 11:00 a.m. The Q&A ends. Josh Greenfield, Nora Mills and Tim Jones sign off; the beta was expected to open on the spot. It did not.
- 10:30 a.m. The Forever Q&A begins on the Warcraft Twitch and YouTube channels.
Why it is late
Blizzard has not said. The likely answer is the boring one: everyone with a pack hit the login server at the same second and it fell over. That is how every Classic launch since 2019 has gone, and it means the beta comes up in fits and starts rather than on a schedule. The other candidates, in order:
- The realmless tech is brand new. Forever has no server list. Every player in a region is on one ruleset-wide world with the Familiar Faces layering system underneath. That system has never taken a live population. A first-boot problem there is the obvious explanation, and Blizzard's own pre-beta messaging warned that this was the first rollout of the new layering technology.
- Entitlements. Beta access is attached to Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection purchases, plus opt-in invites. If the entitlement flag is slow to propagate, the launcher never shows the beta even when the servers are up. Several Classic betas have opened with this exact bug for a subset of players.
- They are waiting on a build. Betas often go live behind a client patch. If the last build failed certification, the servers sit dark until it passes.
None of that is confirmed. What is confirmed is the promise: "immediately after" the Q&A, per Blizzard's own words to r/classicwow earlier this week, and it did not happen.
What you should do right now
- Restart the Battle.net app. Fully quit it, not just close the window. Entitlements refresh on launch. If WoW Forever is not in the version dropdown under World of Warcraft, this is the first thing to try.
- Check the dropdown, not the play button. The beta is a separate entry in the World of Warcraft dropdown, the way Classic and Retail are. If it is there but greyed out, your access is fine and the servers are down. If it is missing, either your access has not propagated or the beta is not open to your account yet.
- Do not buy a pack "to get in faster." Access is the same for everyone who has it. The Epic Pack and Collection are the only two purchases that include beta; the Heroic Pack does not. If you are thinking of upgrading, read the pack comparison first and wait until the servers are actually up.
- Do not reinstall. People who pre-installed the client via the Battle.net command-line flag have a working install. Deleting it gains nothing.
- Plan your level 20 build. The beta caps at 20 for two weeks. Our talent calculator has every tree, and the best class to start with piece makes the case for what to roll first.
Where to watch for the all-clear
The Warcraft account on X and the WoW Forever forum are where the announcement will land. The forum is currently down under load. The live streams page will show the first Forever streams the moment anyone gets in, because the Twitch category populates before Blizzard posts anything.
What the Q&A did say
If you missed the stream while refreshing the launcher: GDKP is banned, addons use the modern API with a built-in damage meter, every tier has a 10 and a 20 player raid plus Onyxia at 40 for launch, one difficulty for everything, no rated PvP, Oceanic players on Australian data centres, surnames are mandatory. The full recap is here.
It will be live. Overloaded servers on a Blizzard launch day are a delay, not a cancellation, and the beta runs to October 21 regardless of when the door opens today. We will mark this page the moment the first login succeeds.
