How to Get Cat Form in WoW Forever: The Great Cat Spirit Quest, the Relic Bug and the Skyborne Version

Cat Form is a level 20 class quest in WoW Forever, not a trainer spell. The full chain for Night Elf, Tauren and Skyborne druids, where the three relics are in the Stormrage Barrow Den, and the October 16 hotfix that made the Relic of the Fang lootable again.

THE WOW FOREVER COLLECTION · FIELD GUIDE · RESEARCH CHECKED OCTOBER 18, 2026

Short answer: in WoW Forever you don't buy Cat Form from your trainer at 20. You earn it with a short class quest chain in Moonglade. Your trainer sends you to Dendrite Starblaze, he sends you to the Great Cat Spirit on the hill south of Nighthaven, and the spirit sends you into the Stormrage Barrow Den for three relics. Bring them back, go back to Dendrite, then back to your trainer. For several days before October 16 the Relic of the Fang said "No loot available" for everyone, so nobody could finish. Blizzard hotfixed it on October 16 and the chain works now.

What happened this week

For several days before October 16, druids who reached 20 found the chain dead at the last step. The Relic of the Fang in the barrow den simply wouldn't loot. A forum thread started on October 16 at 01:02 UTC said it plainly: it was "impossible to unlock cat form." By that morning players were describing lines of 50 or more druids, Horde and Alliance, standing around the cat statue and clicking the same chest. One poster had tried layer swapping, a Moonglade teleport and logging in at 4am. Another pointed out that the bug locked druids out of a quarter of their kit during the last week of a beta that ends on October 21.

The thread hit 56 posts in 17 hours. At 17:56 UTC, Blizzard community manager Kaivax replied that Blizzard had "sent a hotfix to the Beta a few minutes ago that fixed the bug preventing druids from looting the relics necessary to acquire Cat Form." Players in the cave had already noticed: a few minutes before the blue post, someone wrote that "a bunch of us waiting just got it."

If you parked a druid at 20 and gave up, go back. It works.

The chain, step by step

You need to be level 20. The Alliance and Horde chains are mirror images, and the quest IDs below are from Wowhead's Forever database.

StepAlliance (Night Elf)Horde (Tauren)What you do
1The Great Cat SpiritThe Great Cat SpiritSpeak with Dendrite Starblaze in Nighthaven, Moonglade (56.2, 30.5)
2The Great Cat SpiritThe Great Cat SpiritFind the Great Cat Spirit on the hill in southern Moonglade
3The Great Cat SpiritThe Great Cat SpiritLoot three relics in the Stormrage Barrow Den and bring them back
4Blessings of the Great Cat SpiritBlessings of the Great Cat SpiritReturn to Dendrite in Nighthaven
5To DarnassusTo Thunder BluffBack to Mathrengyl Bearwalker in the Cenarion Enclave, or Turak Runetotem on the Elder Rise

Use Teleport: Moonglade to get there. It's a level 10 druid spell, and the quest text reminds you that you already have it. The return trip is the only real travel, so if your hearth is in Darnassus or Thunder Bluff, save it for the last step.

Getting the three relics

The quest asks for the Relic of the Fang, the Relic of the Claw and the Relic of the Silent Shadow. All three are chests on the ground in the Stormrage Barrow Den, the cave system in the southeast of Moonglade. Wowhead's object data puts them close together:

  • Relic of the Fang: around 72.4, 66.0
  • Relic of the Silent Shadow: around 74.4, 65.4
  • Relic of the Claw: around 75.2, 67.4

The spirit's own text tells you how it's meant to go. The relics are "guarded by powerful enraged spirits that will attack you on sight," and "a statue at the entrance will bless you with temporary stealth to get past them." That statue gives you Feline Blessing of the Silent Shadow, a stealth that only works out of combat. So the quest is a small stealth trial: take the blessing, walk past the spirits, loot, walk out. If you get spotted you're fighting things that aren't meant to be fought at 20, so back off and take the blessing again rather than trying to push through.

Two practical notes from the forum thread. Even before the bug, one player said a relic took three loot attempts to count. And with the fix only two days old, there will be a lot of druids in that cave catching up. If a chest has just been looted, wait for it to come back instead of running off.

The Skyborne version

Skyborne druids get their own cat. Their chain sends them to the Avatar of Saeyleenan, which Wowhead lists as the "Great Windborne Cat Spirit," at about 44, 73.5 in Moonglade, "south of the twin bridges." The quests are The Great Windborne Cat Spirit (meet the avatar), The Great Windborne Cat Spirit (the same three relics from the same barrow den) and Blessings of the Great Windborne Cat Spirit (back to Dendrite).

Dendrite's line explains the difference: "your homeland has a slightly different shape than our traditional one." The avatar signs off by hoping to see you "in Zephras again someday." Same trial, same relics, a cat shaped for the Skyborne. One Skyborne player in the bug thread said they finished it in week one before the relic broke, then got stuck trying to do it again on a Night Elf.

What Cat Form gives you at 20

Cat Form in Forever reads like the version you remember: it costs 55% of base mana, adds 12 attack power plus your Agility, makes you immune to Polymorph while shifted, and shifting breaks Polymorph and movement impairing effects. It opens up the energy and combo point abilities, so for anyone leveling feral this is the point where the druid starts to play like one.

Feral in Forever has some changes you should know about before you commit. Tiger's Fury is gone, and the 16-point talent Shifting Power gives 40 energy for mana instead. We cover that in the druid deep dive write-up. You can plan a build in the talent calculator, and the level 20 and 30 BiS lists have feral sets.

If you want a cosmetic twist later, the Serpent look for Cat Form comes from wearing all five Fang pieces from Wailing Caverns. It needs Cat Form first, so this chain comes before that.

Is it worth doing in the beta?

With the beta closing on October 21 and the stress test the same day, a lot of people only want to try feral before they decide what to roll on November 4. You'll do the chain again on your launch character either way. It's short once you're in Moonglade, so it's a cheap way to find out if cat druid is your main. If you're still undecided, our class tier list and the case for starting as a shaman might help.

WoW Forever Datamined Mounts: Blizzard Says the Spectral Wolf Pack and Crimson Rooster Are "Not Intended" for Forever

The October 15 WoW Forever beta build contained a Spectral Wolf Pack, Crimson Rooster, Verdant Sea Turtle, three pets, a tent toy and two transmog ensembles that look a lot like retail shop items. Blizzard says they are not meant for Forever. What was found, what Blizzard said, and what it does and doesn't tell you about a cash shop.
