THE WOW FOREVER COLLECTION · DISPATCH · RESEARCH CHECKED OCTOBER 1, 2026
Short answer: Olympus is Asmongold's guild network in the WoW Forever beta. By his own count on September 23 it was "30+ full guilds with over 30,000 members," all named Olympus something and, by most reports, Alliance. Players blamed the crowd for laggy Stormwind and nonstop chat spam, and on the same day an addon called OlympusMute appeared that hides every Olympus member from your client. It has passed 34,000 downloads on CurseForge. Blizzard has not commented on either. The addon only changes what you see. It does not report, block or affect anyone else's game.
How Olympus got so big
Asmongold started recruiting into Olympus as soon as the beta opened on September 17. On September 20 he told his guild on stream they had passed 10,000 members, a moment fan account Prism clipped and shared. Classic guilds cap out at 1,000 members, so the answer was more guilds. Olympus spread across dozens of copies, each with its own suffix.
On September 23 he replied to Dexerto on X: "Olympus now has 30+ full guilds with over 30,000 members." That post has been seen more than 1.8 million times. A fan account put the total at over 45,000 on September 26, but that number has not come from Asmongold, so treat it as unconfirmed. On stream on September 25, per a Prism clip, he said "Every single person on the server needs to be in Olympus."
Forever matters here because of how it handles realms. There is no server list. Players share large regional megaservers, so a 30,000 player guild does not stay on one realm the way it would have in 2019. Anyone passing through Stormwind runs into it, and that is where the lag complaints are centred.
The complaints
Dexerto reported the first calls to ban Asmongold on September 22. It quoted a player who said the crowd had turned Stormwind into a "10fps fest." The other complaints in press coverage and on the beta forums: Olympus recruitment spam in trade and general chat, repeated unsolicited guild invites, players using special characters to slip past the chat filter, and slurs in public channels.
A few points need care. None of this means every member did those things. Most of the 30,000 joined a streamer's guild and played the game. The offensive chat comes from player reports and forum posts, and nobody has published a count. Sportskeeda reported one Olympus officer was banned over a character name. We could not confirm that independently, so we are not naming anyone.
On the US forum, "The megaserver needs moderation" (184 replies since September 28) asks Blizzard to put staff in trade and general chat, and even suggests bringing back live GMs. "The social aspect of forever beta is atrocious" has 382 replies. Neither thread has a Blizzard reply.
What OlympusMute actually does
OlympusMute was uploaded to CurseForge on September 23 by the creator Solastro_Gaming. It took off that evening when WoW creator Morrigan posted the link on X with "i'm just gonna leave this here.." That post has been viewed 486,000 times. The creator told GameRant that Olympus members were "unbearable in public chat." Version 1.2.0 went up on September 30 and is built for the current beta client.
By default it targets every guild with "Olympus" in the name. You can edit the list and add your own word filter. For anyone it catches, it:
- Hides their messages in say, yell, emotes, whispers, general, trade, guild, party, raid and instance chat
- Hides their chat bubbles
- Auto-declines their guild invites, group invites, duel requests and trades
- Adds a "Muted by OlympusMute" line to their tooltip
Muted players are never told. The practical reason it exists is the in-game ignore list, which tops out at 50 names. Dexerto noted that early screenshots showed one user with 361 players muted, more than seven ignore lists' worth. It runs because Forever uses the modern addon API, and filtering chat with that API is old and well supported.
The other side answered with code of its own. A GitHub project called OlympusOnly, created September 25, does the reverse: it hides everyone who is not in an Olympus guild. It has no stars and looks like a joke as much as a tool.
What Asmongold said
He has treated it as a joke. In a September 23 stream clip he called the addon "either a hate crime or racism," which is clearly sarcasm. On September 25 he wrote on X: "They're calling it the Olympus genocide." In one reply to Dexerto he mocked the people downloading it with an insult we are not repeating. On a September 21 stream, according to Dexerto, he called his critics "snowflakes." We found nothing from him suggesting Olympus will change how it recruits.
Both sides on the forums
The case for the addon is simple. Nobody has to read a channel they find unbearable, and per-player ignore does not work at this scale. One forum poster summed it up with "OlympusMute wasn't developed in a vacuum."
The case against is more interesting than it looks. A September 28 thread, "Concern: Affiliation-Based Mass-Muting Addons and Fair Participation in WoW: Forever," argues that muting someone for their own behaviour is fine, but filtering "entire communities, potentially encompassing tens of thousands of individual players, regardless of anything those individuals have personally said or done" is different. An Olympus member who never typed a word in trade still disappears from the chat of 34,000 players, and from their trade window, which matters once the auction house and crafting economy go live at launch.
Both points hold up. The addon is a blunt tool for a real moderation gap, and Blizzard is the only one who can close that gap.
Where Blizzard stands
We checked every post in seven Olympus and megaserver threads, plus Kaivax's recent forum history. There is no staff reply about Olympus or the addon. Blizzard's moderation news this week was about gold, when it took about 520 gold from Ziqo without a ban. Nothing in the addon breaks a rule we can find. It reads chat events on your own client, the same thing every chat addon has done for 20 years.
The beta ends October 21 and launch is November 4. If Olympus carries 30,000 players into live servers, the questions in these threads come with it: trade chat moderation on a megaserver, and whether a guild that size changes how a shared world feels. If you want to see it for yourself before then, check who is on right now in our live Forever streams list, and the beta hub covers how to get in.
