THE WOW FOREVER COLLECTION · GUIDE · RESEARCH CHECKED OCTOBER 22, 2026
Short answer: in WoW Forever, a cook drops a Basic Campfire Kit, up to three other players each add one profession-made "camp feature" next to it, and anyone who sits or crafts at the fire for one minute picks up every feature's buff for an hour. Each gathering, crafting and secondary profession has its own feature from skill 20. All features share one 1-hour cooldown, so you can place one per hour. The buffs are copies of class buffs and don't stack with them: the blacksmith's Sharpening Wheel is a Strength of Earth Totem, the fisher's Fish Bowl is Blessing of Kings, and so on. Blizzard laid out the system in a news post on October 21, the day of the stress test. The post lists the skill 20 features. Wowhead's Forever database has the rest, including bigger campfires that hold 5 and 10 features.
How a campsite works
The rules, from Blizzard's post and the item tooltips:
- Someone lights the fire. The Basic Campfire Kit needs Cooking 1 and has a 5-minute cooldown. It is a working Cooking Fire and room for three camp features.
- Other players add features. "A Basic Campfire can support up to three special crafted objects contributed by nearby players, with each player able to add one." Every feature tooltip says "Requires a Campfire nearby."
- You sit for a minute. "Players sitting or crafting at a campsite for at least 1 minute will gain the benefits from other camp features." Crafting counts, so you can make bandages or cook while you wait.
- The buffs last an hour. Blizzard's example is a Sharpening Wheel "that increases Strength for an hour."
- One feature per hour per player. "All Camping features require a campfire to be nearby and share a cooldown of 1 hour." Your Fish Bowl and your Camp Tent run on the same timer.
The 1-minute sit is the whole design. Blizzard's post says it wants a pause that "makes rest, preparation, and community part of the journey," and warns that "on a PvP Ruleset, that risk increases when enemy players come upon your camp." A group of five sitting in a circle in Stranglethorn is a target.
You learn the system through a short quest early in leveling. Once a profession reaches skill 20 you can get its first camp feature from a starter zone quest or buy it from the trainer. Blizzard says features that need skill 140 or more drop in dungeons and raids.
Every skill 20 camp feature
This is Blizzard's table with the class buff each one replaces. The ranges scale with level, so the low number is what a fresh character gets and the high number is the level 60 value.
| Profession | Camp feature | What it gives | Doesn't stack with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cooking | Basic Campfire Kit | The fire itself, room for 3 features | |
| First Aid | First Aid Kit | 3 to 56 Stamina | Power Word: Fortitude |
| Fishing | Fish Bowl | 8% increased stats | Blessing of Kings |
| Alchemy | Mana Well | 10 to 29 mana every 5 seconds | Blessing of Wisdom |
| Blacksmithing | Sharpening Wheel | 6 to 34 Strength | Strength of Earth Totem |
| Enchanting | Enchanted Lute | 28 to 260 armor, up to 13 all stats, up to 22 all resistances | Mark of the Wild |
| Engineering | Reagent Bot | A reagent vendor at camp | |
| Herbalism | Incense Candle | 2 to 25 Intellect | Arcane Intellect |
| Leatherworking | Camp Tent | Rested XP raised to 5% of a level | |
| Mining | Lodestone | 12 to 90 melee attack power | Blessing of Might |
| Skinning | Camp Chair | 2% crit with spells and attacks | Moonkin Aura |
| Tailoring | Faction Banner (Alliance, Horde) | 14 to 32 Spirit, own faction only | Divine Spirit |
Mining is missing from Blizzard's table, and a player in the forum thread under the post asked why. The Lodestone is in Wowhead's Forever database with a Mining 20 requirement, and Icy Veins' camping table lists the same melee attack power buff for Mining, so it looks like an omission from the post rather than a cut. The Faction Banner is the only feature that checks faction. On a PvP realm it buffs only your side, which matters if you share a fire with the other faction in a contested zone.
Two features need a note. The Camp Tent doesn't stack on top of rest you already have: it tops your rested XP up to 5% of a level and does nothing if you're above that. The Reagent Bot has no buff at all. It sells reagents, so your mage can restock runes in the middle of Feralas.
Bigger campfires and the 140 and 300 upgrades
Blizzard's post mentions that "cooks can eventually learn upgraded Campfires that allow five or even 10 objects," and that other professions unlock "Alchemy Laboratories and Tanning Racks." The item data fills in the details. These come from the beta database as of October 22 and could change before launch on November 4.
| Campfire | Cooking skill | Feature slots |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Campfire Kit | 1 | 3 |
| Journeyman Campfire Kit | 140 | 5 |
| Expert Campfire Kit | 220 | 10 |
A 10-slot Expert fire is the raid camp. Ten players each drop a different feature and everyone gets ten buffs for one minute on the floor.
The higher tiers of each feature keep the base buff and add a job on top. You can place most of them over the skill 20 version to replace it.
| Profession | Skill 140 | Skill 300 |
|---|---|---|
| Alchemy | Fermenter: makes certain reagents, plus Mana Well | Alchemy Laboratory: a crafting station for recipes that need it, plus Mana Well |
| Blacksmithing | Anvil, plus Sharpening Wheel | Master Forge: a crafting station, plus Sharpening Wheel |
| Cooking | Cookie's Feast: Stamina food | Iron Oven: needed for the top cooking recipes |
| Enchanting | Arcane Salvager: more efficient disenchanting, plus Enchanted Lute | Arcane Forge: a crafting station, plus Enchanted Lute |
| Engineering | Repair Bot: reagents and repairs | Anarchist's Workbench: a crafting station |
| First Aid | Toxin Study: healing potions and anti-venom, plus First Aid Kit | Plague Doctor's Laboratory: healing potions and poultices, plus First Aid Kit |
| Fishing | Fishing Rack: uncommon fish for an hour, plus Fish Bowl | Fishing Hut: rare fish for an hour, plus Fish Bowl |
| Herbalism | Greenhouse: grows herbs from seeds, plus Incense Candle | Seed Hybridizer: combines seeds into rarer tiers, plus Incense Candle |
| Leatherworking | Tanning Rack: makes certain reagents, plus Camp Tent | Sewing Machine: a crafting station, plus Camp Tent |
| Mining | Rock Garden: spawns a common ore node over time, plus Lodestone | Molten Foundry: a crafting station, plus Lodestone |
| Skinning | Field Guide: read it to learn Track Beasts, plus Camp Chair | |
| Tailoring | Spinning Wheel: makes certain reagents, plus Faction Banner | Loom: a crafting station, plus Faction Banner |
The 300 tier is where camping turns into an economy question. Several top recipes appear to need a Master Forge, Loom, Molten Foundry or Alchemy Laboratory nearby, which means a crafter at 300 can set up shop wherever there's a fire and the stations become something guilds organize around. The Repair Bot also means a group running a dungeon far from town can repair at the entrance if an engineer comes along.
What players are saying
The forum thread under Blizzard's post had 28 replies by the morning of October 22, many of them from retail players annoyed that it was posted in the general forum. The Forever players who replied had practical complaints from the beta. One asked Blizzard to expose campfire timers to addons, because it's "frustrating to walk up to a camp fire, drop your item into the campfire and have the fire fade 30 seconds later," burning your 1-hour cooldown. Another suggested every new feature should refresh the fire's duration. A third summed up beta camping as players shouting at each other to drop the buff they want and then leaving.
Camping also has a history of trouble in the beta. Massively Overpowered, citing IGN, reported on September 29 that a griefer's campfire placed on a new-player spawn point was killing characters during the opening cinematic, In the same report, a beta patch let players cast buffs, use spells and craft during the 1-minute wait. Our layering report covers the other complaint, losing camp buffs when the server moves you to a different layer.
Making the most of it
- Pick one gathering profession with a strong feature. For melee, Mining's Lodestone (attack power) or Skinning's Camp Chair (2% crit) help your whole group, not just you. Our profession bonuses page covers the passive perks each profession gives, which matter more than the camp feature when you're choosing.
- Level First Aid and Fishing. They're secondary professions, so you get the Stamina and the 8% stats buff for free alongside your two main ones.
- Check your group's class buffs first. A Fish Bowl does nothing for a group that already has Blessing of Kings. Fill the gaps your classes leave.
- Look at the Legacy perks. Field Guide cuts the camp feature cooldown, Permanence makes camp buffs last 50% longer, and Reagent Economy makes the tier 1 features free to build. The Legacy system guide has the full list.
- Carry a Cozy Sleeping Bag. The returning bag item stacks bonus XP while you camp, covered in our beta discoveries roundup.
If you're still picking professions, the profession leveling guides cover 1 to 300 for each one.
