Does WoW Forever Have Dual Spec? What Blizzard Has and Hasn't Said

Dual spec is the most-asked unanswered question about World of Warcraft: Forever. Here is what the demo showed, what the forums are asking, and what we expect.

THE WOW FOREVER COLLECTION · DISPATCH · RESEARCH CHECKED SEPTEMBER 17, 2026

Short answer: no, dual spec has not been announced for World of Warcraft: Forever, and the September 17 developer Q&A did not mention it. It has not been ruled out either. Blizzard has not used the words in any Forever post, panel recap, interview or the Q&A, and the four dedicated forum threads on the US and EU boards have no blue reply.

What Blizzard has actually said

Nothing. That is the whole record. The Deep Dive panel covered talents in detail: three trees per class, 51 points, milestone one-point talents at 11, 16, 21 and 31, and all 27 specs meant to be viable in dungeons and raids. Respec cost, respec cooldowns and a second saved spec were not mentioned.

The closest thing to a related statement is Clay Stone's line on WoW Tokens and character boosts: "You get better at the game by playing the game," with no plans for either at launch. That is about purchases, not respecs, but it tells you the design posture. Forever is not shy about keeping Classic's friction where it thinks the friction is the point.

What the demo showed

The BlizzCon demo characters were level 38 with fixed talents. Nobody hovered a trainer's respec button on stream, so there is no demo evidence of the cost. Our talent calculator is built from those trees and works exactly as a single-spec Classic calculator would, because that is all we have been shown.

One thing the trees themselves suggest: the new 16-point milestone talent and the fact that every class has three redesigned trees make hybrid pressure worse, not better. A Shaman with three new capstones has more reason to want two specs than a Classic Shaman did. Whether Blizzard treats that as a reason to add dual spec or as a reason to keep respec gold as a sink is the open question.

What the community is asking for

The forum threads cluster around three positions. The largest asks for dual spec as it existed in Wrath: two saved builds, swap out of combat. A compromise proposal that gets repeated is a 24-hour cooldown on swapping plus a gold cost, keeping the decision meaningful without forcing a 50 gold respec before every raid. And a minority argues that no dual spec is the correct call for a permanent level 60 game where gold sinks matter.

Ignore the posts claiming dual spec "already exists" in Forever. There is no official basis for that.

What to expect

The beta opens at a level 20 cap and moves to 30 after a couple of weeks, so the first hard evidence will be the trainer's respec price at the first respec, not a dual spec button. If respec cost scales like Classic (1 gold, then 5, up to 50), that is a signal Blizzard intends to keep the sink. If it is flat or cheap, that is a signal something else is coming.

The Forever Q&A on September 17 took questions from a forum thread in advance. Dual spec was in that thread and was not picked. What the Q&A did say bears on it: GDKP is banned, gold buyers face permanent bans, and the team intends to manage the economy actively. A studio that careful about gold sinks is not obviously in a hurry to remove the respec one. Read the full Q&A recap.

Until then, build both specs and save them. It costs nothing on our site.
