THE WOW FOREVER COLLECTION · FIELD GUIDE · RESEARCH CHECKED SEPTEMBER 24, 2026
Short answer: the WoW Forever beta is full of things Blizzard never mentioned on stage. A Deadmines axe mines ore for players without Mining. Mages can turn a Shadowfang Keep sword into a melee weapon that hits frozen targets for extra fire damage. The Wailing Caverns leather set has entirely new bonuses, and testers say the full set turns a Druid's feral form into a snake. Every dungeon boss drops a guaranteed blue. Loot you forget to pick up is mailed to you. Blizzard has kept as much new content out of the client data as it can, so most of this was found by playing, and most of it came out in the last four days.
The item numbers below come from Wowhead's Forever database, which is populated from the beta client. Where something is only a tester report or a single outlet's claim, we say so. It is all beta data from build 1.60.1, and any of it can change before November 4.
Rockslicer: mining without Mining
Rockslicer is an old Deadmines weapon with a new use effect. The Forever version is a level 18 two-handed axe (52 to 78 damage, 3.30 speed, +10 Strength) with 30 charges of this:
Use: Slice open and gather from target Copper, Tin, Silver, or Iron Vein (does not require Mining).
That is enough for a stack of ore without training the profession. PC Gamer's Tyler Colp pointed out what that means: you can take two crafting professions and still get the Copper and Tin a Blacksmith or Engineer needs early on. Thirty charges will not level Blacksmithing, but it covers the ore a crafter needs in the teens, and it saves a trip to the auction house.
It is also the clearest example of what Warcraft Tavern's dungeon guide describes as Forever's new itemization rule: dungeon items get effects tied to a class, a biome or a type of enemy. Rockslicer is the "biome" kind. It belongs to a mine, so it mines.
Coldflame Saber: the battle Mage
This is the item people are talking about most. It needs two parts:
- Blade of Silverlaine, a level 21 main-hand sword from Shadowfang Keep: 17 to 33 damage, +6 Shadow Resistance, and up to 28 spell damage and healing.
- Scroll of the Saber, a Mage-only item: "Use on Blade of Silverlaine to create a powerful weapon."
Combine them and you get the Coldflame Saber, a level 21, Mage-only main-hand sword:
- 17 to 32 damage at 2.00 speed
- +7 Intellect
- Up to 32 spell damage and healing
- "Melee attacks deal 98 Fire additional damage against Frozen targets."
Put Frost Nova on a pack, walk in and hit them. Ninety-eight fire damage per swing on top of the weapon damage is a lot at level 21, where a Frostbolt hits for well under 200. PC Gamer noted that a Mage meleeing frozen targets "would have resulted in group removal" in original Classic. In Forever it is what the weapon is built for.
A few caveats. Shadowfang Keep is above the beta's level 20 cap, so few testers have held the finished sword. Wowhead's database does not yet show where the Scroll of the Saber comes from.
Wailing Caverns: new set bonuses and a snake
The Embrace of the Viper set (Armor of the Fang, Belt of the Fang, Footpads of the Fang, Gloves of the Fang and Leggings of the Fang) has been a Druid levelling set since 2004. Forever keeps the pieces and replaces the bonuses:
| Pieces | Forever bonus |
|---|---|
| 2 | +10 Intellect |
| 3 | +10 Attack Power |
| 4 | When you take damage at or below 25% health, restore 100 health and mana over 5 sec (once every 5 min) |
| 5 | Melee attacks can inflict Dream Venom, stunning the target for 1 sec |
The fifth bonus is not the one people are talking about. A tester posted on September 20 that the full set "turns our feral form into a snake form," and Wowhead reported it on September 23 as a hidden set bonus that lets "some players" turn into a snake. It is not in the tooltip, and Wowhead's wording suggests it only applies to certain classes or forms. It is cosmetic, it is funny, and it is exactly what Warcraft Tavern's guide means by items tied to a "special enemy archetype." The Druids of the Fang are snake druids, so their set makes you one.
One reply in that forum thread asked for more of this at 60. Wowhead also reported on September 23 that rare spawns in the open world now drop pieces of their own item sets, and on September 21 that some new sets mix dungeon blues with level 60 gear. Both are in line with that request.
Guaranteed blues and mailed loot
Two dungeon changes affect every run:
- Every boss drops a guaranteed rare (blue) item. Warcraft Tavern's dungeon guide confirms it, and it changes what a Deadmines run is worth. In Classic, plenty of bosses had no guaranteed blue at all.
- Forgotten loot is mailed to you. Wowhead reported on September 21 that if you leave a dungeon without looting a boss, what you would have received arrives in your mailbox.
Together with the dungeon XP cut (kills are worth little, quests are worth a lot; see our dungeon XP piece), this points one way. You do a dungeon once or twice for its quests and loot and then move on. You do not farm it for XP.
The Cozy Sleeping Bag is back
The Cozy Sleeping Bag first appeared in Season of Discovery, and Forever brings it back as a quest reward. The Forever tooltip reads:
Use: Unfurl a sleeping bag. Resting inside for at least one minute will provide a bonus to experience earned, stacking up to 3 times. (1 Hour Cooldown)
Reports put the bonus at 1% per stack. Three minutes in the bag gives 3% bonus XP, which stacks with the 5% XP buff from cooking food. guided.news reports the quest becomes available around level 14 and also rewards a 12-slot bag, based on community screenshots. Wowhead covered its return on September 22. It fits the new camping system, where you sit at a fire for buffs, and the Legacy perk Field Guide shortens the camp cooldown.
Library books: an early neck and ring
Season of Discovery hid books around Azeroth for Mages to collect for runes. In Forever, everyone can collect them. Warcraft Tavern reported the rewards on September 21:
- 10 books, "Friend of the Library": a choice of Scholarly Pendant (+6 Stamina, +4 Spirit) or Erudite's Amulet (+4 Agility, +6 Stamina). Both are item level 25.
- 20 books, "Greater Friend of the Library": a choice of Philanthropist's Ring (+6 Intellect, up to 10 spell damage and healing) or Field Researcher's Loop (+7 Strength, +7 Agility, +7 Stamina). Both are item level 40.
Wowhead's database lists the Field Researcher's Loop as Rogue only. That is odd for a quest choice every class can make, so it may be a bug or a sign that the ring changes by class. An item level 40 ring that you can get while levelling is a strong reward either way.
Mages who hand in the books also unlock a small profession called Research. It turns Light Feathers into spell scrolls on a one-hour cooldown. Warcraft Tavern's author notes the profession currently disappears when you relog, and nobody knows yet whether there are rewards beyond 20 books.
Smaller finds worth knowing
These come from Wowhead's news coverage over the past week. We have not verified them item by item.
- The default bank is twice as big (September 21).
- The character panel explains every stat in detail, closer to a modern UI than Classic's (September 21).
- Mana users' spells do not auto-upgrade when you train a new rank, unlike retail. Old ranks stay on your bars, as in Classic (September 22).
- Alliance can earn a Kodo mount through reputation, which used to be Horde only (September 23). Wowhead's database also lists the Lavender Kodo and White Kodo as level 40 Horde mounts that need "Kodo Riding."
- A cosmetic-only reward was found, similar to retail's appearance-only items (September 22).
- The Skyborne starting zone has Horde-only Druid and Shaman relics, from a quest only Horde Skyborne can do (September 23).
- First and last names break mail. The realmless setup plus mandatory surnames has caused mail routing problems (September 21).
- Wowhead has datamined a possible legendary questline for spring 2027. It is spoiler territory and unconfirmed, so we are not repeating it here.
One exploit
A single outlet, Shane the Gamer, reported on September 19 that an XP potion looted from chests in Mount Hyjal skipped the level 20 beta cap. A Reddit poster with about 1,200 upvotes said they and a friend reached 28. We found no other outlet that reproduced it and no Blizzard response. The level cap is the main thing keeping the beta small, so this is very likely fixed, but no patch note has mentioned it.
Why this is happening now
Blizzard has kept as much new Forever content out of the client data as it can, which PC Gamer noted is why players are finding these items by hand. Aggrend told MMORPG.com on September 17 that there will be no raid PTRs and that item stats stay hidden until an item drops (see our hidden item stats piece). The beta is the first time anyone can see this content, and the world has more than a thousand new quests, so discoveries come in daily. Wowhead ran ten Forever discovery stories on September 22 and 23 alone.
The level 30 phase should bring Shadowfang Keep and the new Excavation Site dungeon in the Wetlands (24 to 29) into range, so expect the next wave of finds from there. The Merchant's Favor recipes are already mapped in our Merchant's Favor guide, and the new dungeon list is in our zones and dungeons guide.
