THE WOW FOREVER COLLECTION · DISPATCH · RESEARCH CHECKED SEPTEMBER 30, 2026
Short answer: no, WoW Forever does not have player housing, and Blizzard has not announced any plan to add it. What exists is one line from lead game designer Tim Jones in a Windows Central interview: "I would love some day to maybe take Player Housing and bring it into the Classic world." That wish, published on September 22, turned into a forum thread titled "Unacceptable: Dev confirms desire to add player housing" on September 28. By September 30 it had 477 posts and more than 6,600 views, which makes it the biggest non-gold argument on the beta forums this week. Nobody from Blizzard has replied in it.
What Jones actually said
Windows Central's Jez Corden interviewed Jones and lead software engineer Nora for a piece that ran on September 22. The housing line came up while they were talking about how the Classic team and the retail team borrow ideas from each other. Jones pointed to retail's new world boss lairs as something that came from the Classic side, then said:
"I could see them borrowing the camping system from us very easily, and perhaps connect it to Player Housing? I would love some day to maybe take Player Housing and bring it into the Classic world."
Read in order, the first sentence is about retail taking Forever's camping system and hooking it up to retail housing. The second is Jones' personal hope for the future. It has a "some day" and a "maybe" in it, and no feature, patch or timeframe.
We summarized that interview in our roundup of the September 22 developer interviews, and at the time we only quoted the first sentence. That undersold it. The second sentence is the one the thread is about, and we have added it there.
What is confirmed
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Is player housing in WoW Forever at launch on November 4? | No. It isn't in any launch feature list, the beta, or the September 17 Q&A. |
| Has Blizzard announced housing for a later Forever patch? | No. The only source is Jones' "some day" in one interview. |
| Has Blizzard responded to the thread? | No blue post in the thread or its spin-offs as of September 30. |
| Do the Forever packs include housing decor? | Yes, but for retail. The shop fine print says the decor requires Midnight, sold separately. Our Heroic vs Epic pack breakdown has the details. |
That last row causes a lot of confusion. The Skyborne Heroic Pack and the pricier bundles list "housing decor" among their bonuses. That decor goes into your retail house in Midnight. It doesn't mean Forever has houses.
The case against housing
The thread's opening post makes the argument most of the "no" side agrees with. It calls housing "a terrible system" that "pollutes the loot table for drops and quest rewards," says it "does not encourage socialisation," and predicts it "will spawn MTX." It got 129 likes, the most in the thread.
Other replies focus on:
- Developer time. "Its development resources that could be spent creating actual content," one early reply said. Forever's pitch is new zones, dungeons and 10 and 20 player raids every patch, and some players would rather the team spent time on that.
- The shop. A September 29 thread called "Hard truths about Housing" argues that the one part of retail housing that "worked exactly as designed" was the shop. With Forever already selling a cosmetic pack at launch, that worry lands.
- Isolation. Players who lived through Garrisons in Warlords of Draenor worry that anything private and instanced pulls people out of the open world, which Forever's own developers call "the main character."
The case for it
The "yes" side is almost as loud. The second most liked post in the thread, at 123 likes, says only: "eexcellent cant wait, housing was one of my top wishlist." Other points that got support:
- Something to do at 60. "If we're going to be at 60 forever, this is more for people to do," one reply put it. Forever's cap is 60 and Blizzard has pitched its progression as new content rather than new levels, so horizontal systems like the Legacy system carry more weight than they would in an expansion.
- Loot doesn't have to compete. Several players point out that on retail, decor drops on top of normal loot, and you can pass on it like any other item.
- Professions. A September 30 feature request suggests furniture recipes for Leatherworking, Blacksmithing, Tailoring and Engineering, and wood from chopping trees. Forever has already reworked professions, so there's somewhere to hang that.
- RP realms. Forever launches with a roleplay ruleset and transmog, and RP players are the most consistent supporters.
A few posters say housing was planned for original WoW and cut for time. People have repeated that claim for years, but none of the posts link to a source, so treat it as forum lore.
Where this leaves things
There's a middle ground in the replies. Some players are fine with housing only if it's earned in the world (materials from gathering, decor from dungeons, nothing in the shop). Others would take guild halls over personal houses, because a guild hall at least brings people together. One reply in a spin-off thread guessed that housing is something Blizzard would pull out much later, if population drops and it needs a reason for players to come back.
None of that is decided, and it may never come up again. Jones framed it as something he'd love to do, not something the team is doing. For now, the systems that matter for your first character are the ones in our WoW Forever vs Classic guide. If Blizzard says anything official about housing in Forever, we will update this page with it.
