THE WOW FOREVER COLLECTION · DISPATCH · RESEARCH CHECKED NOVEMBER 5, 2026
Short answer: watch four hours of any eligible World of Warcraft stream on Twitch between November 4 at 4:30 p.m. PST and November 12 at 4:30 p.m. PST, with your Battle.net account linked, and you get the Pouch of Violet Dust. Throw it into a campfire and the flames turn purple, and every camp buff at that fire lasts an extra hour, for two hours in total, for everyone sitting there. The catch: it only works during the "WoW: Forever Launch Celebration", which Blizzard says ends in early December, and after that the toy is removed from your collection. Some viewers got it early from a surprise drop during the legendary reveal stream on launch day. Blizzard didn't announce that one, and that, plus the removal, is what has players angry.
How the drop started
On launch afternoon, Blizzard streamed the forging of Forever's new legendary on the Warcraft Twitch channel. At the end, the official Warcraft account on X revealed it at 22:03 UTC on November 4: "Introducing Taldramir, the Whispering Wood, forged in partnership with @WetaWorkshop". By Thursday morning that post had about 155,000 views. Wowhead notes that Blizzard didn't give stats, class restrictions or how you get it, but the two-handed staff has a clear Druid theme and appears in the Skyborne key art. Forever's raids open on December 9, so the legendary is still weeks away at best.
In the last moments of that stream, viewers started getting a Twitch drop nobody had announced. Wowhead reported that some got it from the Warcraft stream and some from other WoW streamers at around the same time, and that the drop page listed an end date of November 4 at 1:59 p.m. PST, which had already passed. Players who weren't watching, or who were at work waiting for the 3:00 p.m. launch, missed it.
The forum reaction came quickly. "I love missing out on a collectible because I didn't know to pull up a stream I couldn't pay attention to" opened at 22:34 UTC, 25 minutes before launch, and reached 35 replies. "Twitch drop?" got to 45. That thread's opening post complained that the drop went live and ended just before launch without any warning, for a toy tied to campfires, one of Forever's best new features.
Blizzard opened it to everyone
At 00:30 UTC on November 5, about 90 minutes after launch, Blizzard published the official campaign: "Set Your Campfire Ablaze with the Pouch of Violet Dust!" It runs from November 4 at 4:30 p.m. PST to November 12 at 4:30 p.m. PST, and you need four hours of any eligible World of Warcraft stream. So if you missed the surprise drop, you can still get it. You have until next Thursday.

Blizzard's fine print matters:
- Link Twitch at account.battle.net/connections first. If you've changed your password or made changes to either account since you last linked, you have to relink, and relinking a new Twitch account has a 7-day cooldown.
- Claim the reward on the channel or in your Twitch Drops Inventory. Twitch rewards that are claimed without a linked Battle.net account expire after 7 days.
- The first Battle.net region you log into after claiming is where the toy is delivered, so log into the region where your Forever characters are.
- Watching several channels at once doesn't count faster. Progress carries over if you switch channels.
- Drops work in browsers and the Twitch mobile app, not on consoles or smart TVs. Blizzard's article also covers a YouTube option through the official Warcraft channel.
- You need an active subscription or game time.
If you'd like to pick a channel, our Forever live page lists who's streaming Forever right now.
What the toy does
From Blizzard's post: the pouch "allows players to turn a campfire purple, increasing the duration of all camp benefits by 1 hour (for a total of a 2-hour duration). Once activated, this benefit is shared, and any other players resting at the Camp will receive the same duration extension."
Wowhead's Forever database shows a 30-minute cooldown, the line "Requires WoW: Forever Launch Celebration", and the flavour text "Many gathered. Many watched."
Camp buffs normally last an hour, and all camp features share a one-hour cooldown (our camping guide covers every feature by profession). Doubling that for the whole fire is useful while leveling in a group, especially if you're running a Sharpening Wheel or Lodestone buff through a dungeon. It changes nothing about what the buffs do, only how long they last.
Why players are upset
The objection isn't the toy. It's that it's temporary. Under Blizzard's own announcement thread, the first reply was "Why are you putting Ephemeral items in wow FOREVER", followed by "Why would I go through any amount of time to get a toy that's going to be removed!!!" and, on Thursday morning, a player who said they thought Forever "was the place we go to get away from the dumb manufactured FOMO." One suggestion that came up more than once was to remove the extra hour after the event and leave the purple flames in collections.
There's a case for doing it this way. On the EU version of the thread, one poster edited their message after asking streamer Naguura about it, saying she explained that the point is not to bloat Forever with collectibles the way retail has. That's a secondhand account, not Blizzard's. Blizzard hasn't explained why the toy is temporary, and hasn't said what else the Launch Celebration includes.
The surprise drop itself is a separate complaint, and it's partly fixed. Everyone who missed it has a week to catch up. Players asking for drops to be announced ahead of time are still waiting for an answer.
What we don't know yet
- The exact end date of the WoW: Forever Launch Celebration. Blizzard only says "early December", and raids open December 9.
- Anything about how Taldramir is obtained, its stats, or which classes can use it.
- Whether there will be more Twitch drops during the celebration.
